Easy regular habits to make your household a harder target.
With this checklist spending just a few minutes a day or a couple hours a month can improve your safety and ability to react during a crisis.
Daily <5min
Lock all doors and windows at night and when leaving the house
Security System use
Check front door for scratches or markings
Check news or neighborhood watch groups for any issues in your area
Let someone know where you’ll be for the day
Weekly <1hr
Check edge of property for markings and damage
Practice weapon take-aways and/or self defense
Spend time outside or walking your street with your household
Keep an active house
Practice Predict & Prevent skills; de-escalation tactics, body language reading, situational awareness, etc
Monthly <2hr
Talk to your neighbors about any odd occurrences, vehicles, markings, loiterers
Ensure all entryways and windows are serviceable, locking appropriately
Simulate scenarios with household, practice crisis plans
Check crime trackers for any changes in crime trends for your area
Ensure emergency contacts are up to date
